DC voltage converters are used when different DC voltages are to be connected to one another. They can work in upward or downward direction.
In electric vehicles, DC/DC converters essentially fulfill two functions:
Charging process: During the charging process, the output voltage of the rectifier is converted in such a way that an optimal charging voltage / charging curve for the battery bank is achieved, which is essential for a long service life of this bank.
Operation: During operation, the inverter is provided with the optimal supply voltage (DC voltage) from the battery storage for the current power requirement , regardless of the charging status of the battery bank or a reduced output voltage of the battery storage due to a high power request.
In vehicles with DC motors, the electric motor can be fed directly from the DC/DC converter.
