This type of converter is very common for powering crucible melting furnaces and is used up to high power levels (>10 MW), although it has the technical disadvantage compared to parallel resonant circuit converters with thyristors that the entire furnace current, which can reach several tens of thousands of amperes at high power levels, flows through the inverter.
12- and 24-pulse rectifier designs are used in high-performance converters to reduce the design-related line effects.
Power control is achieved by frequency detuning of the inverter.
The converter can be equipped with HSG technology.
